AT&T to add 80 new cell sites in Northern California and Reno in 2008In a press release, AT&T has announced that it will be adding 80 new cell sites this year further expanding it’s higher-speed wireless network. No specific details on Reno were announced. New AT&T cell site active near Damonte Ranch Parkway & S. VirginiaAfter years of complaints and waiting, AT&T has finally improved coverage in the Damonte Ranch and Zolezzi Lane areas with a new cell site which is co-located on an existing tower behind the Wal-Mart on Damonte Ranch Parkway. CID 6296x. AT&T 3G maps for Reno/Tahoe/Carson area onlineAs reported a few weeks ago, phones on the AT&T network in the Reno area are now showing 3G data coverage. AT&T has now posted PDF maps showing 3G coverage in the Reno/Tahoe/Carson City areas. Carson City/Carson Valley/Dayton map 3G coverage is now shown as an overlay on top of their regular coverage map. AT&T phones begin showing “3G” data speeds in the Reno areaIn the past few days we’ve had reports of AT&T 3G capable phones showing the “3G” icon, instead of the “E” (Edge) icon throughout the Reno area. AT&T advertises average data speeds of 400-700 Kbps on their 3G, HSDPA network. When AT&T officially launches 3G wireless service in the Reno area, they will join Sprint, Verizon and Clearwire who already offer 3G wireless broadband speeds in the Reno area. AT&T set to improve coverage in Damonte Ranch and Zolezzi areaAfter many coverage complaints and delays, AT&T is finally set to improve coverage in the Damonte Ranch and Zolezzi Lane area. Antennas for an AT&T cell site were approved last week which are to be located on the existing 80-foot monopole behind Wal-Mart on Damonte Ranch Parkway. The location currently has antennas for Cricket, Clearwire and Sprint PCS. Improved AT&T coverage north of Reno near Hwy 395/Hwy 70It was recently confirmed that Edge Wireless, an AT&T affiliate, has co-located a cell-site near the intersection of Hwy 395 and Highway 70 north of Reno. This intersection is also referred to as Hallelujah Junction. Earlier this year antennas were co-located on an existing monopole that provides Verizon coverage in the area. This new Edge Wireless cell site provides AT&T customers roaming coverage in a previous dead zone around the area. AT&T cell site across from Grand Sierra Resort moved once again
In the picture you can see the temporary and permanent antenna structures. The top of the temporary antennas are even with the bottom of the billboard, and just to the left of it - barely “seeing” above the freeway structure. The new, permanent pole extends above the top of the billboard. With the added height and additional antennas, this site should also increase coverage inside Renown Medical Center’s new expansion.
