  • User reports… Cingular Wireless customers who were customers prior to the 2004 acquisition of AT&T Wireless and their network are now using the New Cingular/AT&T Wireless 850/1900 Mhz network. Until recently they were still roaming on the T-Mobile 1900 Mhz network which Cingular had to give to T-Mobile as a condition to acquire AT&T Wireless and their CA/NV network.

  • This website’s author is still trying to confirm if new Cingular Wireless customers are being placed on the Old Cingular/T-Mobile network or the New Cingular/AT&T Wireless Network. Existing customers of either carrier are still using their original network but are able to roam onto the other network in case of poor signal on their primary network. Eventually all Cingular customers will be put on the New Cingular/ AT&T Wireless Network.

  • Website update on the way… Due to Cingular Wireless’ acquisition of AT&T Wireless late this year, it’s time to update the Carrier Evaluations. As part of the deal, Cingular will be giving it’s network and cell sites in Nevada and California to T-Mobile, and Cingular will use the former AT&T Wireless network and cell sites. According to news reports, this transition could take up to 4 years. In the mean time I will be referring to the 2 different wireless systems as…

  • The FCC has approved Cingular Wireless’ acquisition/merger of AT&T Wireless according to various sources. AT&T Wireless employees have reported that they are already receiving new training, and that the name and rate plans could be changing within the next 20-30 days. Previous announcements have stated that Cingular will use AT&T Wireless’ cell sites, and Cingular’s present-day cell sites will be transferred to T-Mobile.

bullet AT&T Wireless coverage at Lake Tahoe/Truckee/I-80 has improved in the last month for subscribers with GSM 850Mhz capable phones. The 850Mhz frequency generally delivers longer range and better in-building coverage than the 1900Mhz frequency which AT&T Wireless also uses. Full GSM 850Mhz support has also been activated south of Reno in the Carson City area.

CID 1312 is located near the corner of Hwy. 267 and Speckled in Kings Beach. A third cell site, CID 1321 was identified, but it’s exact location is yet unknown. AT&T Wireless maps updated. Dead Zones updated.
bullet A report on October 9 about the existence of a Sprint PCS cell site near the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort is false. There is no coverage in that area at this time, however they have an application pending for a cell site in that area according to public records.

  • Added cell sites in the Verdi area to the total count of cell sites per carrier serving the Reno/Sparks city limits because Verdi recently became annexed into the Reno City limits. This change added 2 cell sites to the total number for AT&T Wireless, Sprint PCS, Cingular/T-Mobile and Verizon. The annexation added 1 cell site to the total number for Nextel, and no additional sites for Cricket since they have no coverage in the Verdi area. Fun fact: The western-most point of the Reno City Limits are now within 1/2 mile of the California/Nevada state border.

  • CID 64x near Plumb & Kietzke. Building permit applied May 2 – issued October 18 – cell site active Jan. 2
  • CID 334x at Plumas and Plumb. Building permit applied Sept. 27 – issued Dec. 6 – cell site active Jan. 2

bullet New AT&T Wireless GSM1900 only cell site discovered in Incline Village (updated regional map):

  • CID 311x  – possibly the new cell site that got approved for construction on Nov. 25 on CalNeva Lodge, Crystal Bay, or possibly co-located at a Cingular cell site at the Diamond Peak Ski Lift.

bullet Discovered Nextel site co-located in Tahoe City (updated regional map):

  • I don’t think this is a new site, it was just overlooked in previous drive tests.
