October 23, 2007 AT&T phones begin showing “3G” data speeds in the Reno areaIn the past few days we’ve had reports of AT&T 3G capable phones showing the “3G” icon, instead of the “E” (Edge) icon throughout the Reno area. AT&T advertises average data speeds of 400-700 Kbps on their 3G, HSDPA network. When AT&T officially launches 3G wireless service in the Reno area, they will join Sprint, Verizon and Clearwire who already offer 3G wireless broadband speeds in the Reno area. This intersection is also referred to as Hallelujah Junction. Earlier this year antennas were co-located on an existing monopole that provides Verizon coverage in the area. This new Edge Wireless cell site provides AT&T customers roaming coverage in a previous dead zone around the area. August 12, 2007 AT&T cell site across from Grand Sierra Resort moved once again
In the picture you can see the temporary and permanent antenna structures. The top of the temporary antennas are even with the bottom of the billboard, and just to the left of it – barely “seeing” above the freeway structure. The new, permanent pole extends above the top of the billboard. With the added height and additional antennas, this site should also increase coverage inside Renown Medical Center’s new expansion. FeedbackThank-you! Thank-you! I hope this info on our experience will in some way help with your site! You are providing a great and needed service to this area! Thanks again, R.S. ———————————————————————— Thanks for giving the customer a better shot at choosing a carrier. R.G. I recently tested a Motorola V505 flip phone… …where our Nextels barely worked. The V505 is a Quadband phone and it seemed to pickup a signal in more locations. It did have some trouble but by simply walking around a little, I found a strong signal to make a call. We then purchased 8 V180 Quadband phones for our company, and switched from Nextel to AT&T Wireless… . Thank you, D. M. |
